Hi all. I just signed up and figured I would go ahead and post this. I just moved to Alabama last year and still have not found a ped for my dd. I need someone that will take non-vax children....
Thanks for any help. I will post a intro too.

Hayes says wonderful things about Dr. Melissa Wilson at Over The Mountain Pediatrics. I was there on Wed but saw a different doctor so all I can say is that the office is nice, the staff was great and the wait was short. It's an all woman practice in Homewood/Mountain Brook.

We saw Dr Jolly at Shades Crest. He is for vaxing, but will see non-vax kids and wasn't pushy with us.

We use Allison Holt at Tot's N Teens at Trinity (was Montclair) I love her dearly but she is only working 2.5 days a week now and we havnt been able to see her lately since the kids keep getting sick on her off days. Im not very fond of the other Dr in the practice and even though I hate to switch it seems like it is becoming time to.
I think I'll call and see if I can meet with Dr Wilson.. Atleast the drive to the Dr's office wouldnt be so long!

I use Dr. Richard Smith with Vestavia Pediatrics. We really like him. I don't know if he will take non vax though.

I love Dr. Stone at Over the Mountain Pediatrics. She was very supportive of my efforts to BF my son even though things weren't going well. We've also seen several of the other docs there and have liked them all.

I live in Trussville and I take my boys to Pinson Pediatrics. They are in downtown Pinson.. I've never been in there and them not know who we are. They call back within minutes, not hours. I love them!
There number is 681-8002.. its two doctors.. Ann-Katrine Wilson and Dr. Mason.. love both of them. They work very closely together and know whats going on with each patient. They came and saw my boys everyday in the hosital when they were born and came and saw me everyday too. I can't say enough about them.

*sigh* I hate reading these threads! I really don't like our doctor (family practice), but dh doesn't think going to B'ham is realistic. We aren't going to find a better doctor here in Jasper. Most people go to Birmingham or deal with doctors who are in a hurry, don't listen, etc :-( Thankfully dh has had to take dd's a few times and realized that I'm not making up the fact that the doctor doesn't listen, so maybe he'll come around.... I keep hoping!

Hi Jessica,
I went to Dr. Wilson and did not have the same luck as some other that posted here. The office was so crowded and in such a rush, I felt like I was in a slaughterhouse of some sort. She spend maybe 10 minutes with us, and was not very interested in listen to my dd's conditions. We did a blood test there and she was to call me in 4 days. I got a call after 10 days, and the secretary was to call me the following day to give me the information for an allergist. She called me another 7 days later and has scheduled an appointment n a day I cannot take. Anyway, I think I will try your doctor. I like a bit more personal than that...
Thanks and have a nice day
Miriam
I am sorry you had a bad experience at Dr. Wilson's office. I really think though that that may have been an isolated incident. We see Dr. Wilson and love her. She has always spent a great deal of time with us. I have never felt rushed or hurried through the process. And the staff has always been extremely helpful, and at times have gone out of their way to help me.
Dr. Wilson respects our vax decisions and was willing to sign the medical exemption form required for school entry.

Maybe it was an isolated incident, but let me tell you, that day, the office was a zoo. The front desk was totally unable to keep things under control and one of the ladies working there was rather rude. Of course, for a first impression that was not a good one. I am guessing that with the change of weather and all, too many children were sick, hence the busy office. I was just not impressed with the overall care. I did appreciate the fact that she respected my non-vax choice, and lots of time docs will not even deal with you. I may give her a try again, but that first impression is all I have for now.
Thanks for your input and have a nice day.

I know this is an older post and the original poster may have found a ped. that she likes by now:) But I think these types of threads are great so I'll go ahead and post. We've always gone to Michael Miller at the Pediatrics East Deerfoot office. The wait time really varies, sometimes if we are there first thing in the morning we get right in. Other times even if we are there 30 minutes after they open, they might have a dozen sick kids to work in and we wait an hour. You never know. But I like that we can always get in at the last minute.
We waited until 5-6 months to start vaccinations and although he would often talk about them, he still didn't push us. He did know we were just waiting, though.
He was fine with our homebirth, which was great! Had some questions about what exactly our midwife did to check him after his birth and how the cord was cut (was it sterile). He was a bit concerned about the fact that Garrett's cord wasn't cut until 2 hours after he was born (due to his being born as Donna was leaving her driveway...) and did an extra iron check. I wasn't worried but was fine with him checking it to ease his own mind:) Garrett's iron levels were fine and always have been. Anyway, Dr. Miller suits us well.
Sorry this is a bit long-winded!
