Hey everyone :) Not sure if this belongs here, but I'll give it a shot. My carpet is getting pretty rough looking, but I don't want to clean it with the strong chemicals (which is pretty much all you find at the store). Does anyone have any suggestions for getting stains up/cleaning the carpet in a kid-friendly way?

A book I read recently suggested using a carpet steam cleaner but with hot water only and no cleaning solution. I haven't tried it that way yet, but I would think it would have to be cleaner than it was . . . If you don't have an extraction steam cleaner you can rent one at lots of grocery or home improvement stores.

Thanks! I've tried this before with a rented cleaner, but my carpet got pretty dirty again quickly.

I hear ya! We broke down and bought one. With 2 dogs and 2 kids things get dirty really fast! (Or thrown up on or pooped on or spilled on . . .) Actually, we have 2, a big one for cleaning whole rooms and a little one for cleaning spills and messes.

We had a company called Citrus Solution clean the carpets in our new house. They claim that what they use is natural but, honestly, I didn't research it in depth. They have a website.

I would be interested in seeing some replys!!
Did you use soap w a rented cleaner? A lot of the time they leave residue on your carpets which actually attracts dirt!!!

Yeah, my aunt told me to try using a mixture of clorox 2 with some downy liquid fabric softener. It gets the carpets really clean and nice-smelling and soft but they get dirty again pretty quickly.

I've used Oxyclean in a steam cleaner before and it did good. Our new house has no carpet so I'm not much help. Loving hardwood and tile!

I use a little laundry detergent mixed with water. Be careful a little goes a long way.
