I am the one contemplating the vaginal vs. Cesearean delivery. I had a great appointment with my OB last week and I think we are 90% leaning toward a vaginal birth. YAY! In light of this, I am now "shopping" for a doula! I think maybe some of you are doulas? Anyone have some good recommendations? My doc feels a doula would be especially helpful in my siutation since it is imperative that I go natural- no epidurals, no pitocin- gentle pushing, different positions, etc. Also, what's the going rate for doulas right now?

Thanks so much for all your advice!!!!

Also, where are you delivering and who is your OB? I am glad you found one who is not only supportive, but encouraging of doulas!

Anne Boyd, who might be the calmest most gentle mama I know, is a wonderful doula. Valerie Moore has been around for a while and also does a great job!

Oh can I ask who your OB is? I just had a successful VBAC in Jan. and we are moving to Alabama and wondered if there were any VBAC friendly OBs/hospitals there. It was really hard to find someone supportive here in Oklahoma. Thanks!

Kens, I know of one group here in Birmingham who is VBAC friendly. I don't know about in Tuscaloosa though.

I think we could definately travel to Birmingham. I have SLOW labors, so making it there should not be a problem. Could you give me the groups name? Thanks so much!

Dr. Timothy Stone at St. Vincent's. He's great! I'm sure he'd be happy to sit down with you and discuss your situation. He's been so open and supportive about my situation.
