I'm seriously considering starting a not for profit but don't know anything about LLC.

well, the quick info i've so far gathered is that you fill out the paperwork from the probate court, and once that's rolling, file for a business license. the guy i spoke to said it'd cost $100, but i don't know if there are other fees besides that.

it seems pretty simple/straightforward on the surface, but i think it may require some professional advice when it comes to how to file with the irs and whatnot.

I don't know too much about it, but I do know there are some tax ramifications of it. So, you def want to check into that.

My Dad is a CPA/Attorney and I worked with him for years.

Thepaperwork is pretty straight forward but you are totally right - you need professional advise when it comes to your taxes. Also, depending on what your business is and what your goals are, there might be other ways to set it up with better tax outcomes.

So I would definately speak with a professional and get them lined up to help with your taxes - as for the actual llc paperwork you can probably handle that on your own.
